Phase 7 Independent Cinema
I don’t know what it is about Bloody Disgusting but every film they have sent me has been very good; maybe I had low expectations but I have been pleasantly surprised every time. Recently they sent me a film from Argentina called “Fase 7” or Phase 7. The story centers on Coco and his very pregnant wife Pipi who just happen to find themselves in the middle of a complete pandemic. The reason why there is a catastrophic virus really is not clear or important. What makes the story work is Coco’s empathetic naive way of blundering through a very serious situation. It is almost pure comedy how Coco deals with the spreading virus. A prime example of the levity is when Coco deals with people dieing, shooting at him, explosions, and certain doom and comes home to his wife and tells her he fell down and was helping a neighbor with his car! Another great character is Coco’s conspiracy theory crazed neighbor ,Horacio, who may or may not know what he is talking about. The film is fun and definitely worth checking out.
Here is the synopsis from Bloody Disgusting-
Coco (Hendler) has just moved to a new apartment with his wife Pipi (Stuart), who’s seven months pregnant. At first, they don’t seem to notice the growing chaos around them, but when authorities quarantine their building after a deadly pandemic breaks out, Coco joins forces with his off-kilter, but well-prepared and stocked next-door neighbor Horacio to defend his refrigerator and keep Pipi safe. Meanwhile, outside the building, Buenos Aires—and the world as the apartment denizens know it, is disappearing. The world is ending; got ammo?
This guy can shoot!
